Family and maternity shoot with Jacques, Paula and Noah

Noe Todorovich

Some of you will remember Jacques and Paula from previous photo shoots. Or you may even have the good fortune of knowing them personally. Seriously, they are some of my favorite people ever. My first engagement photo shoot was with them. Since then, I've documented their wedding and growing family, and it's become tradition for me to be there to photograph their major life events. We've joked that I would have to fly to wherever they are to keep up this tradition.

Last year, Paula graduated from medical school and matched in Seattle. When I realized I would be in California to photograph Jill's wedding, I decided to see if I could incorporate a Seattle leg to my trip in order to visit them. It worked out beautifully and must have been fate, as I found out Paula was pregnant again! In addition to getting to spend time with them and their absolutely adorable son, Noah, I was more than happy to be able to photograph them again. They are such a beautiful family, and I'm so happy to see them settling in so well to their life in Seattle.

Jacques and Paula | Maternity Edition

Gina Todorovich

While I’ve been interested in photography for as long as I can remember (I even was a photography major when I started college), I only started pursuing it on a professional level within the last few years.

One of my first real photoshoots was with my friends, Jacques and Paula, for their engagement. I was also grateful to be at their wedding in Florida in October of last year, where I got to document the getting ready—perhaps my favorite aspect of wedding photography.

And now, I’ve taken their maternity pictures. Paula pointed out that I’ve photographed all of their main life events. I hadn’t stopped to think about it until then. I adore these two (soon to be three, yeah, their son gets my unwavering vote of confidence already) and am so happy to have been able to share in these events and share my work with them.

For the maternity photoshoot, I didn’t have any specific ideas or visions of what I wanted to do. Sometimes I do, and other times I embrace my ability to go with the flow and develop a vision on the spot. Paula had a few ideas, and I got an idea about using a brick wall in the golden hour sunlight as a backdrop when I glanced outside.

We took some pictures inside near the window and a few of her sitting and laying on the bed. In the midst of the shoot Paula’s sister who was visiting from NYC arrived and came into the room to see her sister in all her pregnant glory for the first time, amidst the clicks of the shutter.

I knew one thing Paula really wanted was some pictures of her doing a few yoga poses. Now, not being at a studio made this mission a bit more challenging (and fun, I think!). Perhaps I shouldn’t reveal my secret improvisation for these shots... (But if you really want to know, ask me...chances are I’ll tell you. Shh...)

More of the pictures from the shoot are on my Facebook page

So that’s Jacques and Paula to date. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for our collaborative, creative connection in the future...
