Fall is my favorite.
The changing leaves, the crisp air, the invigorating effect it all has on me. I just love it all.
Having grown up in Hawaii the idea of seasons was a foreign concept to me that I didn’t know was foreign. I had no idea about how different the weather and environment could be for each season. And goodness knows I had trouble getting into the Christmas spirit when it was 80-some degrees, sunny and the only white Christmas I’d see was at the beach (either the sand or possibly the tourists). :)
I’m not complaining. It’s just a completely different scene.
I fell in love with fall on the East Coast. My friend Milli and I instituted a (nearly) annual fall New England road trip early on. It became one of my favorite events of the year, and I would look forward to the next fall road trip immensely—even while driving back from the current one.
Work cut into travel time a little this year, so we had a compressed trip, but we still got to visit some of our favorites and discover a new one (Rockport!). I did A LOT of driving (1,294 miles worth in the end, with a crucial assist from Amara on the home stretch known as the New Jersey Turnpike).
Amara and I left after work Friday to meet up with Sandy and Anthony in NYC. And then an early start Saturday morning to head up to Lake George, which I tend to frequent on these trips because it’s so beautiful. I love that 9N that runs alongside the lake!
Then we stopped by Ticonderoga and the Kissing Bridge before taking the ferry over to Vermont.
Oh, Vermont. It is seriously one of my favorites. Ever. It is so beautiful. And a different adventure every time, as we explore whatever roads take us in the general direction we want to head. AND this year...we saw a DOUBLE RAINBOW! There was a video of our discovering it as well, but our decibel level proved too much for Amara's Android phone. Check back for some video posts from the fall road trip including a calmer version of the double rainbow and surrounding Vermont fields and a special wake up "call" Amara-style to be posted later this week. ;)
Unfortunately this year, we didn’t get to actually see any of New Hampshire as the sun set before we drove through on our way towards Boston. Also didn’t quite make it into Boston, but Sunday we did get to Rockport, MA.
Rockport was an Amara request/find/gem ("It's where they filmed The Proposal!"). We thoroughly enjoyed the cute town and all the shops. We were daydreaming and reminiscing about still being there come Monday in our respective offices.
Ah, the return to reality after an amazing trip. Until the next one...
